Research

My research interests are in medieval German literature, culture and thought. My doctoral thesis (Cambridge 2011) was on medieval German bridal quest epics and the problems of genre, and my current work is concerned with early Middle High German religious writings and their intellectual context. I have a particular interest in literary works that deal in some way with themes of confession and penance. Other research interests include the history of scholarship of medieval literature, and the relationship between writings in Latin and the vernacular.

Teaching

Medieval and modern German literature; translation into English
