Research

Laura Blanco de la Barrera’s research focuses on Galician literary historiography, Literary canon and processes of identity formation.

She is currently completing her PhD Dissertation (Santiago de Compostela) about the processes of national discourse building through Galician Literary History configuration in the 19th century. More specifically, how the views on earlier periods progressively shape the growing sense of ‘nationhood’ and its effects on the Galician cultural field.

Since 2006, she has been a member of the Research Group Galabra (Cultural Studies on Galician, Portuguese, Brazilian and African Countries of Portuguese Language Systems) at the University of Santiago de Compostela, working for the collective research projects on “Enlightenment in Portugal and Galicia” and, especially, “Contribution to the Study of the Enlightenment in Galicia. Documentary Compilation and Bibliography (1705-1820)”, funded by the Galician Government.

Besides, as for her parallel training in Psychology Studies, she is deeply interested in the relations between Literature and Psychosocial approaches; namely, in the development of the concept of ‘madness’ throughout history and its implications in literature, arts and social fields.
