Sean Wyer is a PhD Candidate in Italian Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. His forthcoming dissertation explores 'cosmopolitan' rhetoric and cultural memory in Sicily, using a mixture of cultural studies and anthropological methods.
He is a Stipendiary Lecturer in Italian at Balliol College, and teaches Italian literature to undergraduate students at Balliol College, Jesus College, and St Peter's College.
His academic research interests include the anthropology of the Mediterranean; regional and hyper-local food traditions in Italy; cultural memory; and Sicilian identity. He is a co-founder of UC Berkeley's Italian Studies Migration Working Group.
