Daron Burrows has been awarded a Leverhulme Research Fellowship for his project ‘The Anglo-Norman Verse Psalter: the first critical edition’. The project involves completion of a three-volume edition of a late twelfth-century paraphrase of the Old Testament Psalms composed in hexasyllabic sixains in the dialect of French used in medieval Britain. The earliest full metrical version of the Psalms extant in a European vernacular, the text poses particular challenges through its complex manuscript transmission, and is of particular socio-cultural interest for the ways in which it moulds the Latin Gallican Psalter into a repository of Christological significance.
