Carolin Duttlinger, Professor of German Literature and Culture and Fellow of Wadham College, has been elected a Fellow of the British Academy along with five other Oxford academics in the humanities and social sciences.

Founded in 1902, the British Academy is the UK's national academy for the humanities and social sciences. It is a Fellowship of over 1,800 world-leading scholars from the UK and overseas. In 2026, 58 UK Fellows, 32 International Fellows and two Honorary Fellows have been elected in recognition of their exceptional achievements.

Carolin Duttlinger said:

"I am honoured and delighted to be elected a Fellow of the British Academy. I would like to thank all my colleagues and students here at Oxford, who've been instrumental in shaping my own academic journey. These are immensely difficult times for the Humanities, and for Modern Languages in particular. The British Academy is playing a vital role in advocating for the importance of languages in higher education, at schools and in wider society. I look forward to supporting the Academy in these efforts."
