My doctoral work, funded by my local government, centres around Marcel Proust's À la recherche du temps perdu and the representation of gender and sexuality via ekphrasis. Prior to beginning my research, I worked as a tour guide at Hauteville House, Guernsey, the primary residence of Victor Hugo during his exile from France. It is the site of an epic decoration designed and overseen by Hugo and carried out by local craftsmen. I obtained my MA in History of Art from The Courtauld Institute of Art, having written my dissertation on androgyny in twentieth-century musical stage personae, and my BA in Modern Languages (French and Spanish) from Magdalen College, University of Oxford.
Research interests: French literature from the mid-nineteenth century onwards; literature and the senses; queer theory; relations between literature, music, and the plastic arts.
