Camoes Conference

The Faculty was honoured to host the Second International Congress of Camões Chairs on 15th April. 47 chairs of Portuguese Studies from around the world, whose work is supported by the Portuguese government through the Camões institute, took part. The Congress successfully consolidated one of the most extensive and prestigious research networks in the field, bringing together scholars from Europe, Goa, Cabo Verde, and the Americas, for an intensive day of brainstorming around new projects and collaborations. It also included a keynote roundtable on the contemporary importance of the poet Camões, between Professors Tom Earle, Helder Macedo and Simon Park, a concert of Portuguese baroque music, and an exhibition by artist Ana Palma in the Taylor Institute. Florbela Paraíba -- the President of the Camões institute -- and Daniel Grimley -- the Head of Humanities in Oxford -- opened the Congress, and signed a funding protocol between the University and the Camões Institute.
