The Faculty are delighted to award the inaugural John and Alun Edwards Scholarship. The scholarship provides full funding for a DPhil student pursing a research project in Spanish students, particularly related to Spanish history and culture in the 15th and 16th centuries.
This scholarship is made possible by a generous donation from Rosemary Edwards in memory of her late brother, Dr John Edwards, and father, Alun Edwards.
The scholarship is awarded to Yasmin Anjali Sinha, from Southampton. She completed her undergraduate degree in Spanish studies at St Edmund Hall and her MSt at Magdalen College. Her research interests lie predominantly in the study of late medieval and early modern Spain, and her project will focus on evolving perspectives on empire in the works of ‘official’ history composed by court historians or cronistas de Indias during the reigns of successive Habsburg monarchs.
She’s said "I am deeply honoured to have been selected for the John and Alun Edwards studentship, without which I would not have been able to undertake this DPhil project."
