Every year, the Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages runs a variety of outreach events and activities, from open days, school visits and study days, to providing online resources for teachers and pupils of modern languages in schools across the country.

The Faculty is looking to recruit a group of Student Ambassadors from across its undergraduate courses and from a variety of backgrounds to support with these outreach activities. Ambassadors will be paid £14.98 an hour and should expect to work approximately 20 hours across the academic year.

Responsibilities will vary depending on the activity but will often include supporting the general running of events, providing information, guidance and personal experiences of applying to and studying languages at Oxford to students and their parents/guardians/teachers, and supporting school students during academic sessions.

This year, we are also looking to enhance our outreach communications through the creation of engaging videos and testimonials for our website. With this in mind, we are keen to recruit a number of students who have some ‘communications’ experience that they can integrate into the ambassador role. This could involve filming videos, taking part in interviews, writing blog posts and testimonials, and providing ideas for improving the Faculty’s website.

Student Ambassadors can have a real impact on prospective students’ engagement with languages and interest in applying to Oxford. For this reason, we are looking for applicants who:

  • are passionate about widening access to higher education/languages degrees;
  • have some experience of working with young people;
  • can communicate effectively with a range of audiences;
  • have some experience and knowledge of creating engaging written and/or video content (not essential);
  • and, are happy to take part in videos/be featured on the Faculty’s website (not essential).

To apply for this role, please complete this short online application form with some basic personal details as well as your motivations and any relevant experiences. Applications will close on Friday 14th November at midday.

If you are successful, training will be provided to support Ambassadors with safeguarding and adhering to relevant university policies. You will also undergo a DBS check which will be organised and paid for by the Faculty.
