Who killed Roger Ackroyd? Has the mystery of The Hound of the Baskervilles really been solved? Did Oedipus truly murder his father, as Freud would have it?
We are delighted to have writer and psychoanalyst Pierre Bayard, who will eelucidate such questions for us in a lecture followed by a discussion. He is the author of numerous books, including the bestseller How to Talk About Books You Haven’t Read, which has been translated into some thirty languages. He recently has also become a fictional character in the series ‘Pierre Bayard, Private DeteXtive’, penned by Clémentine Beauvais.
As the founder of ‘detective criticism’, Pierre Bayard revisit major literary and cinematic investigations, showing how authors might err and get the killer’s identity wrong in order to set the record straight. He will draw in particular on the example of his latest counter-investigation, Le Mystère Vertigo, conducted in connection with Hitchcock’s famous film, which will be published this fall by the Éditions de Minuit.
